그녀는 Delloreese Patricia Early라는 이름으로 1931년 7월 6일
미국 Michigan주의 Detroit에서 태어났다.
6세때부터 교회에서 노래하기 시작했으며 10대 때에는 Mahalia Jackson과 같이
복음성가를 불렀다.
18세때 the Meditation Singers를 결성하여 Las Vegas의 카지노들에서는 최초로
복음성가를 불렀다.
그녀는 Erskine Hawkins Orchestra의 vocalist로서 레퍼토리를 차츰 넓혀갔다.
"Don’t You Know"와 "And That Reminds Me" 는 1950년대 그녀의 최대 히트곡이다.
1969년에서 1970년 잠시 텔리비젼의 토크쇼를 맡았던 그녀는 이후로
"Sanford and Son", "The A-Team", "Crazy Like a Fox", 그리고 "Picket Fences"같은
여러 시리즈물에 출연했다.
그녀는 Fox사의 "Charlie & Company"와 "The Royal Family"에서는 고정 배역으로
출연했다.
또한 그녀는 서품을 받은 성직자로 회중을 이끌고 있으며 같이 출연하는 배우
Roma Downey의 결혼식을 집전하기도 했다.
약간은 허스키하고 힘있는 목소리로 우리를 사로잡았던 그녀는
가수로서 배우로서 그녀의 재능을 발휘했다.
